San Diego Christian hosted a national high school speech and debate tournament for the National Christian Forensics and Communication Association.
Over 115 high school students traveled with their families from 25 states to SDC to compete for national titles in Persuasion, Biblical Interpretation, Impromptu Speaking, Apologetics, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, and Team Policy Debate.
Dr. and Mrs. Ague spoke to a full house of attendees at the closing awards ceremony on Saturday night, where participating students received trophies and plaques for their achievements.
NCFCA, the largest high school Christian speech and debate organization in the United States, is a nonprofit organization that emphasizes excellence in academics and personal integrity through skilled communication. Through NCFCA, homeschooled high school students train and compete for titles in regional tournaments across the country.
Dr. Lisa Dunne, who helped organize the event on SDC’s campus, called it a huge success. “The students and families of NCFCA were tremendously blessed by the support they received on our campus,” she said. “From the food service to the facilities management to the community support, NCFCA’s team members were encouraged by SDC’s willingness to go the extra mile for this event.”
Dr. Dunne is grateful to the faculty and staff of SDC for assisting with judging and setup, as well as to Bartell Hotel partners and SDC’s food service providers. “Because of such an organized and dedicated team effort, this tournament was a tremendous success,” Dunne said. “We hope to continue sponsoring events of this nature that help us reach our mission of engaging the larger community and serving as the hands and feet of Christ.”
After participating in the NCFCA judging experience at SDC, several local families have now signed up to take part in SDC’s new Junior Speech League, a weekly training environment for elementary and middle school students sponsored by SDC Youth.
