Students Travel to San Francisco

SDC’s mission is to educate and inspire students through the truth of Scripture and the development of competencies that prepare graduates whose purpose is to impact the world. This spring break  we put our mission into action through our Alternative Spring Break Trips. One of the trips included an urban ministry experience in the San Francisco Bay Area. This team consisted of 6 students and one staff member. Every day the team divided their time between ministry sites and activities that stretched personal views of stereotypes, cultures and one’s understanding of city life.

The San Francisco Team worked with organizations in the city of San Francisco and Oakland varying from soup kitchens to organizations that helped adults living with disabilities. This week-long trip changed hearts in such a way that multiple group members asked the question of, “How can we serve more in San Diego?”

Encouraging our students to go on trips like this continues to be a reflection of SDC’s mission through exposure to the real world through opportunities for students to find their civic and ministry responsibility in this world. San Francisco was an amazing trip. Thank you to our ministry partner, Center for Student Missions (CSM) and all of their ministry sites: St. Vincent Day Home, Project Open Hand, St. Vincent De Paul, Laguna Honda Hospital, San Francisco Food Bank Marin.
