6 Hawks Earn NAIA Scholar Athlete Honors

El Cajon, Calif. -- Six San Diego Christian College atheltes have been recognized for excellence in the classroom by the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Scholar Athlete honors are awared to juniors and seniors in the highest of academic standing. To be nominated, the student-athlete must maintain a mimimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.50.

Playoff Hopes Extinguished in Irvine

Irvine, Calif. -- SDCC's opportunity to make GSAC playoffs since the 2006-2007 season slipped away on Monday as No. 2 Concordia University (28-2, 18-2 GSAC) walked away with an 89-57 win.
Turnovers were the story of the game for SDCC. CUI score 41 points off of turnovers to SDCC's 5 points off their 2. The Hawks only lead of the game came in the first minutes on points by James Green and Tyler Mutton. At 8-8, the final tie of the game, CUI went on a 33-14 run, taking a 42-21 lead into the locker room.
Jack Colston and James Green had 6 points in the first, leading the Hawks, while CUI's Terrance Worthy was 4-5 from the field, 3-4 from three-point land for 11 points and 4 assits.
The Eagles would continue to widen the point gap, reaching their high at 39 with 5:09 remaining.
Green totaled the most points for the Hawks with 13. He also had 8 rebounds. Derek Larsen was 4-7 from the field, ending with 11 points and 2 assits.
Andre Murillo was 9-13 for 19 points and 6 rebounds for the Eagles. The Eagles enter into the GSAC playoffs, which start March 4th at Biola University.
The Hawks finish their season with a record of 7-23 overall and 5-15 in the GSAC.
Tyler Mutton totaled 380 points for the Hawks in 30 games (12.7/gm). He led in team minutes with 875, pulled down 85 rebounds, shot 60-70 from the free-throw line, had 38 assists and 11 steals. Ahmed Abdelhamid led the Hawks in rebounds with 152 total (5.1/gm), 138 of them offensive. Jason Starr was the second highest point scorer with 296 points (10.6/gm). He also was ranked 49th in Division one in 3-point fieldgoal percentage at 39.6%. Danny Soliman held the most assists, 55 for the Hawks.
