The mission of the Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science at San Diego Christian College is to prepare students to matriculate to Physical Therapy School, Occupational Therapy School, and to teach Physical Education. Rehabilitation Science provides students with a rigorous curriculum that is geared to those students who seek admittance to Physical Therapy School or Occupational Therapy School. Entry requirements for Physical Therapy School and Occupational Therapy School are very competitive. San Diego Christian college is the only college or university in the Western United States to have a dedicated pre-professional curriculum in both Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy.
Kinesiology is the study of human movement. The term is used in higher education institutions to describe a multifaceted field of study in which movement or physical activity is the primary focus. Physical activity includes exercise for health promotion and physical fitness, activities of daily living, and involves special populations such as children, elderly, persons with injury or disease and athletes.
The curriculum is organized to prepare students for:
- Careers in the broad fields of sport and wellness promotion, performance technology, sports ministry, coaching, and teaching.
- Graduate work in the health sciences and Kinesiology for research and/or college teaching.
- Professional schools in paramedical and the allied health care field.
