HISTORY OF SDC
Christ Centered | Biblical Worldview | Culturally and Globally Involved
San Diego Christian College (SDC) was founded in 1970 as Christian Heritage College (CHC) by Drs. Tim LaHaye, Art Peters, and Henry Morris, who desired to equip students with an education that trains both mind and heart. The first degrees were awarded in 1973. Soon after, the college moved campuses to share a 32 acre complex with Shadow Mountain Community Church.
In 1976 Christian Heritage College was awarded the status of Candidate for Accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WSCUC) and was given full Accreditation in 1984. The college is also a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU).
In 2005, Christian Heritage College became San Diego Christian College and in 2014, SDC moved to a new campus in Santee. While the name and location has changed, the mission remains the same: to educate and inspire students through the truth of Scripture and the development of competencies that prepare graduates whose purpose is to impact the world.

It’s an exciting time to be at San Diego Christian College (SDC) as we celebrate the accomplishments of this past year. When we reflect on the progress made, we are encouraged and motivated to persist in pursuing our vision for the college. This summary conveys the vitality that exists throughout our entire community as we work to achieve SDC’s strategic plan.
As we look toward the future, we will continue to adapt and innovate our resources while upholding the mission and values that have guided the institution since its founding in 1970.
Driven by our mission, our Executive Summary is comprised of three strategic initiatives and six priorities. The three strategic initiatives – academically equipped, biblical worldview and culturally involved – provide the framework that guides our efforts to deliver transformative Christian education with global opportunities while building lifelong relationships. The six priorities allow us to define how and what we will focus on in the years ahead.
On behalf of SDC, I am pleased to offer this summary and share the compelling stories that demonstrate SDC’s progress in year two of Vision 2019. Come alongside us to witness all that God has planned as we seek to accomplish Vision 2019 strategically, purposefully, and with servant leadership.
SDC is inspiring students through a dynamic Christian higher education experience that encourages rigor, competency, and commitment rooted in a biblical worldview that will lead to a lifetime of service and learning.
SDC affirms its commitment to God’s preeminent perspective on life and the realization that He created and enables each person to be a life-changing influence for Christ.
SDC is encouraging students, faculty, and staff to be responsible stewards while serving in local and global communities.
