Teaching Credential

Overview

At San Diego Christian College, we equip, empower, and send out educators who are called to make a Kingdom impact in the lives of students, their families, and our communities. The Teacher Credential Program (TCP) is for anyone who does not have a California Teaching Credential and is seeking a credential to teach in a K-12 classroom. Credentialed Teachers can also take a sub-set of courses from this program to obtain an additional credential. We have a variety of content areas: Social Science (History), English, Art, Music, Math, Science, and Physical Education. The TCP at SDCC is designed to meet the needs of working professionals without compromising standards for credentialing or for the classroom.

The mission and vision of the Department of Education at SDCC is to nurture and develop excellent Christian educators who have an appropriate subject-matter foundation with an understanding of student behavior, competence in teaching, the ability to develop and encourage critical judgment and creativity, and a commitment to the highest ethical standards and Christian service.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Whether you’re a recent college graduate preparing for your first teaching job or a professional exploring a second career, a California Teaching Credential is your key to employment within the state’s public-school systems. SDCC’s Teacher Credential Program organizes required coursework and student teaching experience into three blocks. If you complete the Block 1 prerequisite courses during your undergraduate studies or summer term, you can finish the TCP in one year. Blocks 2 and 3 involve observation and student teaching at public K–12 schools; as such, they are completed during the Fall and Spring semesters.

You can also enhance your California Teaching Credential with a graduate degree by enrolling in SDCC’s Combined Teacher Credential and MA in Teaching program, which allows you to complete both programs consecutively in about two years. Submit copies of your CBEST/CSET or proof of registration for the test(s) along with your application.
