San Diego Christian College (SDC) Hawks Competition Flight Team launched two airplanes on a cross-country journey to compete in the national college flying championships at The Ohio State University on Wednesday.

SDC Hires Award-Winning Film Director for New Film and Media Studies Program
San Diego Christian College (SDC) is pleased to announce the hire of Marc Hutchins, Executive Director of Alexander Films, as the head of film and media studies in the Department of Communication. Beginning fall 2017, Professor Hutchins will oversee film courses as well as the production of an annual feature film at the College.
Dr. Elizabeth Stanton to be Interim Vice President
Today, Dr. Paul Ague announced the appointment of Dr. Elizabeth Stanton as the interim Academic Vice President to the faculty and staff during the monthly CommUNITY event. Dr. Stanton joined the SDC faculty the same semester that Dr. Ague was elected as President. Coming to SDC with her Master’s degree from Wesleyan University, she went on to complete her Doctorate of Psychology at Southern California Seminary and is currently finishing her requirements as a licensed Psychologist.
Truth and Purpose Conference 2017
At SDC, Truth and Purpose aren’t just words out of the mission statement –they are core values and beliefs. These beliefs are what propels students, faculty and alumni to have an impact on the community, the city and the world. On February 4th, SDC Communication students attended the 30th Annual Impact Conference at Azusa Pacific University. James Powell, SDC student, and Dr. Lisa Dunne, Chair of the Communication Department at SDC, both presented papers at the conference.

The Wingman Pipeline Program provides promising pilots currently enrolled in a professional airline training
program an internship at GoJet while they build flight hours.
Making MLK a Day ON, Not a Day Off
Dr. King says that everyone can be great because everyone can serve. Therefore, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, 53 SDC students, staff and faculty served throughout the Santee and Lakeside areas to six different serving sites on their day off. As SDC’s sixth year participating in MLK Day of Service, we provided the community of Santee and Lakeside over 159 hours of service!

College for a Weekend
Last week SDC Undergraduate Admissions hosted prospective students and their families at our first College for a Weekend event of the year. Students participated in Dye Wars with ASB, attended classes with our current students, worshipped with us in chapel, spent two nights in the resident apartments and attended a beach barbecue.
SDC Flight Team wins bid to nationals!
The San Diego Christian College Hawks Competition Flight Team placed third in Region II National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) championships held at San Jose State University last week.
Missionary of the Week
John and Nancy Hook have served as missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship since 1978, and last week they were honored as Missionary of the Week at Shadow Mountain Community Church. John and Nancy Hook have spent 20 years flying in the jungles of Indonesia, then after serving in Haiti, Mali, Suriname, plus an additional three years in Afghanistan, then 11 years training new missionary pilots at Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) Headquarters.

SDC Volunteers Make a Difference
On November 1, 2016, SDC was honored by the Santee School District for all our efforts at the Santee Success Program (SSP). Santee Success is a short-term placement program provided by the School Board to assist at risk students with the goal of returning the students to stream main schools.
SDC Aviation Graduate Passes With Flying Colors
Kayla Harder, a 2014 San Diego Christian Aviation Department graduate, received an excellent rating on her technical evaluation with Missionary Aviation Fellowship (MAF) this week at MAF headquarters in Idaho. Kayla received funding for over half of her training at SDC through SDC’s Missionary Pilot Loan Forgiveness Program (MPLFP). The MPLFP loan is forgiven twenty percent per year they serve on the mission field thus eliminating the debt in five years.
SDC IMPACTing our Communities
In Ephesians 5:1-2 we are encouraged to imitate Jesus and walk in love as He has loved us and given Himself for us. IMPACT provided our student body with the opportunity to step off our campus and serve in Santee, San Diego and Mexico. Students choose to serve with local partners on Thursday and Friday or join a travel team for four days. Check out the recap video.
